ABDUCTION OF PERSEPHONE (THE)
ABDUCTION OF PERSEPHONE (THE)
A pictorial poster, made by St. Almaliotis. In the middle of the poster, within a circular frame, the title of the movie reads in red, capital letters: THE ABDUCTION OF PERSEPHONE. Below, in grey monochrome, a man is shown on a horse, having grabbed and holding in his arms a young woman. Around the circle, four portraits are laid, representing Orestis Makris, Aleka Katseli, Kostas Kazakos and Mairi Tsapalou. At the top left of the poster, the production is mentioned: “Pan. Zervos S.A. Kinimatografikon Epicheiriseon. Production Scholi Staurakou”. At bottom left, the leading actors are listed: “O. Makris, A. Katseli, V. Diamantopoulos”. At bottom right, St Almaliotis’ initials, an S and a small paintbrush. On the poster’s margin: “Pechlivanidis Printing”.
A poster by St. Almaliotis, with the portrait of the drunken (Orestis Makris) standing out. The face features soft transition of ochre and white lights on the forehead, under the eyes and chin, while the blank stare of the eyes is particularly touching. The portrait of Aleka Katseli in grey monochrome is in contrast with the yellow and ochre colors used in the portraits of the two youths, K. Kazakos and M. Tsapalou, while grey is also used for the Rape of Persephone in the center of the scene. A poster that is full of contrast, both on colors and on faces. The fine drawing in the depiction of the horse but also of the two moving figures is also remarkable. An artist of great fame, S. Almaliotis paints the faces with ease and, by using few colors, manages to portray the emotional undertone of the film.
